Driving Directions

Steenbock Library is located at 550 Babcock Drive near the corner of Babcock Drive and Observatory Drive. For detailed driving directions try one of the following:

Parking

Work begins June 1, 2008 to expand the Lot 36 parking ramp. The ramp will be closed for approximately 3 weeks beginning in mid-June. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Metered Parking

A limited number of meters are on the top level of the Lot 36 parking ramp adjacent to the library building on Observatory Drive. The meters have a maximum available time of 2 hours. Steenbock Library does not have a change machine.

Lot 36 Permit Enforcement Hours

  • From 7 AM - 4:30 PM Monday-Friday, pay the meter or display a valid UW Annual Baselot permit for the lot.
  • From 4:30 PM - 7 AM and all day Saturday and Sunday, the meters are free and the lot is open to the public.
  • Special Events parking restrictions apply to this lot on UW Football Saturdays. Consult the complete list of events and affected lots.

Permit Parking

All-day and half-day parking permits may be purchased at the Transportation Services Office located in Room 124 of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) building at 610 Walnut Street. The office is open 7:15 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

Lot availability will vary. Two nearby lots are:

  • Lot 62 is located on Observatory Drive across from the Gymnasium (Natatorium).
  • Lot 34 is located off Babcock Drive, on Tripp Circle, near Tripp Hall.
