Wireless information

Laptops (your own or one of ours) can use the wireless network to access the Internet.

What you'll need to connect

  1. A NetID.
If you already have a UW email address, you already have a NetID. If you do not have one, activate your NetID at the My UW-Madison Web page. Help with activation is also available at any campus InfoLab.
  2. A wireless network card.
Your wireless network card must meet IEEE standard 802.11b or 802.11g, and your laptop must meet the card's system requirements. The Tech Store sells several wireless network cards for Apple and PC computers. For more information about which wireless network card is best for you, contact the DoIT Tech Store (265-7469).
You can also connect certain wireless PocketPC PDAs to wireless.
  3. A correct configuration.
Follow your wireless card's configuration instructions and specify the correct wireless network name (wireless-wiscworld).

See the DoIT Wireless page for more information.
