The Steenbock Information Commons (Computer InfoLab) is open to all UW students, staff and faculty with a valid UW ID.
It is on 2nd floor near the entrance and has 66 Dell PCs running a full range of software as well as some specialized courseware packages.
Consultants can be reached at 262-9635 and are available whenever the library is open to answer most general questions.

Laptop and video camera checkout
Laptops- Laptops are checked out from the Lab Consultant at the Information Services desk.
- Two Forms of ID required:
- UW-Madison ID
- Driver's license, Wisconsin ID, or passport
- Loan period is 3 days. Check when your laptop is due
- Checkout policies and how to pay fines
- Pay a fine with a debit or credit card
- Dell Inspiron 1150 with:
- AC power adapter, Wireless card, DVD/CD RW, Modem, NIC

Digital Video Cameras
- Video cameras are checked out from the Lab Consultant at the Information Services desk.

- Tapes are required but NOT provided. Digital mini DV tapes for the video cameras can be purchased at the DoIT Tech Store.

What you'll need to connect
- A NetID.
If you already have a UW email address, you already have a NetID. If you do not have one, activate your NetID at the My UW-Madison Web page. Help with activation is also available at any campus InfoLab. - A wireless network card.
Your wireless network card must meet IEEE standard 802.11b or 802.11g, and your laptop must meet the card's system requirements. The Tech Store sells several wireless network cards for Apple and PC computers. For more information about which wireless network card is best for you, contact the DoIT Tech Store (265-7469).
You can also connect certain wireless PocketPC PDAs to wireless. - A correct configuration.
Follow your wireless card's configuration instructions and specify the correct wireless network name (wireless-wiscworld).

Double-sided printing (Microsoft Office)
- Click the “Print” button to bring up the print options and select the printer “Steenbock Black and White”.
- Check the ‘Manual Duplex’ option and click print.
- At the printer station, select the print job from the queue as normal and print the first side.
- Return to your computer and click ok to the prompt to reinsert the paper.

Walk back to the printer station, and open the paper tray in the front of the printer. Place your paper in the tray, text (first side) facing up and the top of the paper facing out toward you.
- Select your print job from the queue as usual to print the second side.
Note that you will have to pay to print each side.
