UW-Madison Libraries provides UW-Extension Cooperative Extension library services for work-related research and programming. Library resources (articles, search results, books, etc.) should not be passed on to others due to copyright and licensing restrictions.

Search UW-Madison Licensed Databases

Go to UW-Madison Libraries Home Page www.library.wisc.edu

  • DEMO
  • Top middle box links to databases Find by Name or Find by Subject.
  • (optional) Use circled (i) by database name for database coverage and link to Quick Guide of search tips.
  • Click database name to open database.
  • When UW System Authentication pop-up window appears, change the campus pulldown to UW-Extension, then type your CES NET ID and password.
  • If you can't get in, please notify CES Technology Services who will work with the Library Technology Group to get you in.

OR Click Steenbock Library Journal Databases.

  • Click database name to open database.
  • When UW System Authentication pop-up window appears, change the campus pulldown to UW-Extension, then type your CES NET ID and password.
  • If you can't get in, please notify CES Technology Services who will work with the Library Technology Group to get you in.

Get Articles

From database citation

  • Check database citation for full-text html or pdf links
  • If no Full Text link in database:
    • Click FindIt or SFX button by citation,
    • In FindIt popup window, click Full Text online link,
    • If no Full Text online link, click Library Express link in FindIt popup window.
      • Log in to Library Express (11 digit ID and last name in lower case)
      • Library Express has citation info from FindIt already
      • Answer YES to Do You Want this if It's Not Free? (Articles not charged to you.)
      • Select from drop-down menu Fund Account number (from county staff email with ID or can request from CES Technology Services)
      • You will receive an email when the article is available in Library Express/View Electronically Received Articles.
      • Save article to your computer as article is deleted from Library Express in a few weeks.

If known article (from bibliography, etc.)

  • DEMO
  • Click FindIt from here or any UW-Madison Libraries page.
  • Type citation information. If you only have a Journal Title abbreviation, change Exact Match drop down to Contains and select correct journal from results.
  • Click Full Text online link in FindIt popup window.
  • If no Full Text link:
    • Click Library Express link in FindIt popup window.
      • Log in to Library Express (11 digit ID and last name in lower case)
      • Library Express has citation info from FindIt
      • Answer YES to Do You Want this if It's Not Free? (Articles not charged to you.)
      • Select Fund Account number (should display UDDS# from setup or can request from CES Technology Services and do setup again)
      • You will receive an email when the article is available in Library Express/View Electronically Received Articles.
      • Save article to your computer as article is deleted from Library Express in a few weeks.

Get Books

  • Request books from Library Express.
  • ADD MAILING ADDRESS TO NOTES FIELD USING 2 LINES MAXIMUM!!!
  • Books, conference proceedings, etc. will be mailed with return postage and due date to address in Notes field.
  • Due dates vary due to lending library, usually shorter for interlibrary loans, or semester for UW-Madison items that may be recalled via an email if someone else wants it.
  • No charge for book loans.
  • Identify books on a topic with MadCat, WorldCat, or Google Books.
  • DANE COUNTY OFFICE use MadCat's Place Request button to have books delivered to a campus library for check out with your UW-Madison photo ID. Use Library Express or WorldCat to request books not owned by UW-Madison Libraries be delivered to your favorite campus library. Tip: Steenbock Library has convenient parking in the Lot 36 parking ramp directly behind Steenbock Library on Observatory Drive. There are public parking meters on the TOP floor (bring quarters) and free parking after 4:30 on weekdays. Weekends there's free parking all day except on football Saturdays.

  • Visit one of the WI Centers/Collections to search the Foundations Directory or to see their most current non-circulating books on grants. Contact information, grants guides and some databases are available from the web sites below.
