Below is a small subset of databases most useful for Family Living and 4H educators. |
| Academic Search 1984 - to date (updated daily) | Full text database of more than 3000 journals. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Christian Science Monitor are also indexed. It covers many academic areas, including business, social sciences, humanities, general science, education, and multi-cultural. Searches may be limited to retrieve only peer-reviewed titles (approximately 1700). Dates vary, but many of the full-text titles go back to 1990. |
| Chicano Database 1967-date (updated quarterly) | The most comprehensive bibliographic resource for information about Mexican-American topics. Since 1992 also covers the broader Latino experience of Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, and Central American immigrants. Approximately 125 serials are completely indexed. It incorporates the Spanish Speaking Mental Health Database, a comprehensive resource covering psychological, sociological, and educational literature. |
| Current Contents 1993 - to date (updated weekly) | Within days of publication, indexes 7500 international journals in all disciplines including social sciences, arts, humanities and sciences, Searchable abstracts are available for about 75% of the documents. |
| Education Full Text 1983 - to date (updated monthly) | Indexes more than 400 English-language periodicals, yearbooks, and selected monographic series. Abstracts are included since 1994. Full-text articles have been added beginning with 1996. |
| Eric 1966 - to date (updated quarterly) | Has citations and abstracts of the international journal and report literature in education and related fields. Sources include more than 980 journals, educational reports, project descriptions, curriculum guides, and dissertations. The complete texts of 90% of the document literature (ED numbers) are available in PDF format using the EDRS DOCUMENT LINK. They are also on microfiche at the CIMC (Center for Instructional Materials and Computing) at UW-Madison. |
| Family and Society Studies Database 1970 - to date (updated quarterly) | Electronic version of the indexes Inventory of Marriage and Family Literature and FAMILY (Australian Family & SocietyAbstracts). It indexes more than 1800 journals, books, chapters, newsletters, government documents, and dissertations. It covers the educational, medical, psychological and sociological aspects of family literature. |
| PubMed 1966 - to date (updated monthly) | PubMed is the source for clinical medical information covering all aspects of biomedicine, including the allied health fields; biological and physical sciences; and humanities and information science as they relate to medicine and health care. Citations are available for documents from more than 3,600 journals published throughout the world, plus selected monographs of congresses or symposia (1976-1981). Abstracts are included for about 67% of the documents in MESH. Ovid provides links to some full text. |
| ProQuest Newspapers Dates Vary (updated daily) | Lists articles from 41 national and Wisconsin newspapers, and includes full text for most. The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel are all included. Most national newspapers are indexed since 1989, and have full text back to 1995. Most Wisconsin titles begin with the early 1990's. |
| Proquest Research Library 1988 - to date (updated daily) | Indexes more than 2,000 periodicals, and provides the full text of nearly 1,000 of them. It has a mix of general interest and academic journals that cover the arts, business, education, health, humanities, psychology, sciences, and the social sciences. Dates vary, but many full-text journals go back to 1988. |
| PsycINFO (Psychological Abstracts) (1872-) (formerly PsycLIT) | Covers journal material of psychological relevance scanned from more than 1300 journal titles from more than 50 countries. Beginning with 1987, it also contains references to books, book chapters, and dissertations. Approximately 50% of the articles selected are published outside the United States; 10% are in a language other than English. |
| Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS) (1972-) | Indexes more than 900 journals; books; government documents; statistical compilations;committee reports; directories; serials; reports of public, intergovernmental, and private organizations; and most other forms of printed literature from all over the world. Its subject matter covers public policy, social policy, and the social sciences in general. |
| Social Sciences Full Text 1983 - to date (updated monthly) | Indexes more than 415 key periodicals in the fields of economics, politics and foreign affairs, public administration, public health, sociology, criminology, environmental and urban studies, psychology and anthropology. Feature articles are indexed, as are interviews, obituaries, biographies, and book reviews. There are abstracts beginning with 1994. Full-text articles from 112 journals have been added beginning with 1995. |
| Social Work Abstracts Plus 1977 - to date (updated semiannually) | Contains two databases: Social Work Abstracts contains citations and abstracts to articles from more than 450 journals in the areas of the social work profession, theory and practice, areas of service, social issues, and social problems. The Register of Clinical Social Workers is a directory of clinical social workers in the U.S. |
| Sociological Abstracts 1963 - to date (updated triannually) | Indexes and abstracts 2,000 worldwide journals in sociology. Relevant dissertations have been added since 1986. Also included is the Social Planning Policy and Development Abstracts (SOPODA) database, which covers applied sociology journal article abstracts since 1980. Formerly sociofile. |
| Web of Kn03657owledge 1982 - to date (updated weekly) | A combination of three databases: Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, and Science Citation Index Expanded. It indexes more than 8,000 peer-reviewed journals, providing complete bibliographic data and author abstracts. Can search by cited authors to find articles sharing one or more cited references. |
