InfoLab (2nd floor, entrance level)

Open to all UW students, staff and faculty with a valid UW Netid whenever the library is open.

There are 65 Dell PCs (Windows 7) running a full range of software as well as some specialized courseware packages. Flatbed scanners and laser printers (black & white and color) are available. Printing requires a WiscCard.

Library Workstations (2nd floor, entrance level)

Open to all UW students, staff, faculty and library visitors whenever the library is open.

Four Dell PCs (Windows XP) are available for doing library research. Laser printer (black & white only) is available. Printing requires a print/copy card which may be purchased at the library.

Annex (1st floor)

Open to all UW students, staff, faculty and library visitors whenever the library is open.

There are 20 Dell PCs (Windows XP) with Internet access and Microsoft Office suite only. Laser printer (black & white only) is available. Printing requires a debit card which may be purchased at the library.

Laptops

50 13" Macbook Laptops - runnning both Windows XP and Apple OS X

  • Includes carrying case and power adapter. Loaded with standard software including Microsoft office. Note: Adobe Creative suite is only available on Infolab Desktop computers.

Rooms with computers | Locations

Room reservations: 101, 102, 103, 104, 106, 107, 108, 109

  • 40" LCD monitor and computer with Internet access, Microsoft Office
  • Print to InfoLab laser printers (2nd floor). Requires WiscCard.
  • White boards (markers may be checked out at Circulation Desk)
  • Can accommodate six to eight people
  • Cables to connect laptops to LCD monitors are not available

For larger groups, Room 340 has a computer with projection and is also reservable.

Wireless network connection / Guest NetID

Laptops (your own or one of ours) can use the wireless network to access the Internet. You must have a UW Madison NetID and wireless card in your laptop.

  • Open your Web browser. You will be prompted to log in to the UWNet with your NetID. You are now connected to the Internet.
  • Or, select the "UWNet-Steenbock_Library" wireless network in your network preferences (if your laptop doesn't do so automatically).

Guest NetIDs

Ask library staff about getting temporary wireless network access with a guest NetID.

Printing

  • Requires WiscCard or Print/Copy Card for payment
  • Black & white is 7¢ per side / Color is 60¢ per side
  • All printing is 8 1/2" x 11" format
  • InfoLab printers default to single-sided printing

No transparency or glossy printing is available. For specialty printing, try College Library's Computer & Media Center, the Digital Media Center (see policies) or a local copy shop.

NOTE: Default black & white printing is single-sided. Select double-sided printing when sending print job if desired.

Pick up color printing at the Circulation/Reserves Desk.

Annex (1st floor) & Library Workstations (2nd floor)

All printing requires the use of a Print/Copy Card to pay for print copies.

No color printing is available.

Wireless printing

Wireless printing requires you to add the printer to the laptop's list of available printers. For step by step instructions go here:

Alternatives to wireless printing

If you experience difficulty with this process, consider printing from the InfoLab, Library Workstatons or Annex computers instead by:

  • Saving your work to a USB flash drive
  • Saving your work to your MyWebSpace account
  • Attaching your work to an email
